Milawa Cheese Company was founded in 1988 when David and Annie Brown left city life behind for Victoria’s High Country on Taungurung Country. In an old butter factory, alongside cheesemaker Richard Thomas, they set out to create Australia’s first small-batch blue cheese. Today, their daughter Ceridwen continues the legacy, crafting award-winning cow and goat’s milk cheeses with the same passion and dedication. Rooted in place and family tradition, Milawa remains a pioneer of Australian artisan cheese, with its blues recognised and celebrated across the country.

Milawa Blue has been converting blue skeptics since 1988 — and for good reason. Inspired by Italy’s Gorgonzola Dolce, this buttery beauty was the very first cheese crafted by David and Ceridwen Brown in Victoria’s high country. And decades later, it’s still stealing hearts (and trophies).
Don’t let the blue veining fool you — this one’s gentle. Creamy and mild with a rich, buttery flavour, a subtle yeasty tang, and just the right hit of salt. If you think you’re not into blue cheese, Milawa Blue might just change your mind.
Each wheel is lovingly brushed and turned by hand for three months in their maturing room. The result is a luscious, spreadable blue that plays beautifully with fresh fruit, rye bread, and a glass of Rutherglen fortified.
